WATER LILIES was commissioned in 1997 for the pupose of creating music for someone who needed, relaxing, upliftment and healing music. Paul Lloyd Warner like it so much that he decided to release it as an album. The music is performed on a very sophisticated keyboard that had a remarkable "harp" patch.
From 1990 to 1997, Paul Lloyd Warner had learned to play harp music via his keyboard. The clarity of the harp sound (the attack, release and resonance) is so accurate that this recording once fooled a professional harpist into believing that it was recorded on an actual harp. It is hard to believe that this music was made on a keyboard, not a real harp.
Due to the invention of SAMPLING, every note of a real instrument (or group of instruents) is recorded onto a chip that is incorporated into modern electronic keyboards. The keyboard artist must learn how to play the instruments provided in that keyboard. Since the artist is a pianist, he was able to make the transition to harp. It took him seven years to learn how to play the harp on an electronic keyboard. WATER LILIES was performed solo, in one sitting, and was recorded on the finest digital audio machine.
